Terms

The terms you agree to by using Curio.

Last updated 8 September 2026

What this is

Curio is an app for sharing the music, films, books and articles worth someone’s time. It is made and operated by Vector9, based in Canada. Using Curio means accepting what is on this page. If you do not accept it, do not use the app.

These terms are written to be read. Where a clause would normally be three lines of legal furniture, it is one sentence instead, and it means what it says.

Who may use it

You must be at least 13 years old. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to terms like these without a parent, you must meet that age instead.

Your account

One account is one person. Keep your password to yourself; anything done through your account is treated as done by you. If you think someone else is using it, write to hello@curiocc.app and it will be dealt with.

Your handle is yours while you hold it. If you change it, the old one may become available to somebody else.

What you post stays yours

You keep every right you already had in what you write and share. Curio claims no ownership of your notes, your picks or your profile.

What you do give Curio is permission to store what you post and show it to the people you posted it to, which is the only way an app like this can work. That permission ends for anything you delete, and it ends for everything when you close your account, apart from the narrow exceptions set out on the privacy page.

Curio will never sell what you write, use it to train anything, or show it to somebody as an advertisement.

What is not allowed

Do not use Curio to post or do any of the following.

  • Anything illegal, or anything that encourages somebody else to do something illegal.
  • Harassment, threats, or content that attacks people for who they are - race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Sexual content involving minors, in any form. This one carries no warning and no second chance: the account is removed and the matter is reported to the authorities.
  • Sexually explicit material, and graphic violence shared for its own sake.
  • Impersonating another person, or claiming a connection you do not have.
  • Spam, bulk posting, scraping, or automating the app.
  • Posting somebody else’s work as your own, or infringing anyone’s rights.
  • Attacking the service itself, or trying to reach data that is not yours.

How that is enforced

Notes are checked automatically when you post them, and a note containing clearly abusive language is refused before it is stored. That check is deliberately narrow; it catches the obvious and nothing else.

Every post and every account you can open can be reported from inside the app, and any account you can open can be blocked. Blocking is mutual and immediate: once either of you has blocked the other, neither of you can see the other anywhere in Curio, which also means there is no longer a corner to report from. If somebody is hidden from you that way and there is still something to raise, write to hello@curiocc.app and it will be dealt with the same way.

Reports are read by a person. Content that breaks the rules above is removed, and accounts that keep breaking them are closed. Where something looks like an immediate risk to someone’s safety, it goes to the relevant authorities.

Other people’s content, and other people’s services

Curio shows information about records, films and books - titles, artwork, ratings, where to watch - that comes from other services. That material belongs to them, not to Curio, and it is shown under the terms those services set.

Picks are links. Following one takes you out of Curio and onto somebody else’s site, where their terms apply and Curio has no say in what you find.

If you believe something on Curio infringes your copyright, write to hello@curiocc.app with enough detail to identify the work and where it appears, and it will be taken down while it is looked at.

The app itself

Curio is provided as it is. It is one person’s work, it will sometimes be broken, and it may change or stop. Nothing here is a promise that it will be available, that it will keep every feature it has today, or that it will suit any particular purpose.

Curio’s liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid to use it, which is nothing. Where the law where you live does not permit that limit, the law wins.

If Curio is ever shut down, you will be told before it happens and given time to take your picks with you.

Ending it

You can close your account at any time from Settings, and it takes effect immediately.

Curio can close an account that breaks the rules above. Except where the breach is serious enough to act on at once, you will be told why.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of Canada. Nothing here removes a right that consumer law where you live gives you and does not allow to be signed away.

Changes

When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. A change that materially affects your rights will be announced in the app before it takes effect.

Anything on this page can be asked about at hello@curiocc.app.
